Training is set out by the NVQ (national vocational awards) though salons also have their own schedules. Take an intensive foundation course at a salon hair academy. Courses normally run up to 9 months. They give a good foundation in all aspects of the craft. Salon stylist

Session stylist

 

Freelance style hair for photo shoots and TV commercials. Working through an agent, you will need a portfolio of your work, gained by working closely with photographers, stylist, & make up Artiste. Difficult to get into but if your determined very rewarding. Film & Television Specialist knowledge of wig making and prosthetics is helpful. Difficult to get into but success is rewarding for the determined you will need to have strong connections with film & TV production companies along with a good CV and recommendations.

 

Mobile stylist

 

Working from home visiting clients being self employed you will be responsible for your own tax & national insurance contributions. It is recommended to have liability insurance to cover your customers.

 

Teacher educator

 

rWorking in a collage or salon academy. Many salons own schools and should teaching be one of your strengths, then it should possible for you to work your way into an Academy. Once you have completed your training it's possible to work abroad. Be aware that in USA and foreign countries, requirements and exams differ.
